Shaw - "Red, White, Blue and Green?"
Independence Day is all about our freedom. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness is something we celebrate on the 4th of July.
Soon, I hope, we'll be able to celebrate our own personal Independence Day, free from the tyranny of debt and it's oppressive ways. Then, once we claim that freedom, we'll have a better Life enjoying our Liberty and, more likely, we'll be Happier.
But, as we approach this holiday, with it's colorful red, white and blue, I'm seeing more green than I want to due to the fact that we're headed out of town. And what I mean by green, of course, is that evil money!! Yes, as we all probably have experienced, when it's time to go out of town, you better have a full wallet. These days, the thought of breaking out of our daily routine makes us cringe. We're trying so hard to stick to our budget and save our money that anything out of the ordinary is really not possible.
Here's the exception. My mother-in-law came to town last weekend for her grand-daughter's wedding. She came with her oldest son and stayed with us for this past week. Now we're going to bring her back home over the holiday weekend. I'm happy that we've had her with us and it'll be nice to get away for a bit. The kids will enjoy a change of scenery too since this will probably be their only "summer trip".
But how sad that such a trip has to be clouded with watching every penny knowing that we don't have it in the first place. Oh, how freeing it truly will be when we're out of debt and have a savings to cover trips like this one. Imagine the difference that will make for everyone.
Even in your own life, can you relate to this somehow? Can you imagine what it would be like to take a trip, plan a special night out, buy a new outfit or some clothes for you or your children without worrying if you have the money? Or imagine just buying some food, paying your bills without using your credit cards that you can't payoff. Imagine the freedom and the security to not owe anyone.
Here's a verse I really like from the Bible:
"Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you."
Slavery could very easily be debt because, as you may be experiencing like we are, debt can really restrict you and cause a lot of pain in your life. So be free!! Join us in our challenge to get out from underneath that enslaving debt! I look forward to next 4th of July when we'll be waving our flags knowing financial freedom! We hope you are too!

Slavery
We are also working toward the freedom from debt that has enslaved us. Peter wrote about this too. 2 Peter 2:19 says "While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage." The financial institutions who prey upon those who are fooled use the promise of great life to ensnare their victims. This is not to say that all banks are evil, just an observation of the methods of those who act in a predatory manner without regard for the borrower. This type of deception leads directly to the bondage of debt that never ends. Please pray for us as we pray for you that we can becomes slaves only to our True Master, and be free of the debt that subjects us to money.
